I was born in the Zambian copper belt in 1973 and grew up in Africa, India and the Middle East, whilst being educated in England at Ampleforth College, where I won the school photography bowl in my final year.

After graduating from the University of Reading I began my career as a freelance writer for BBC Radio 4 before moving into factual programming for broadcast television and award-winning documentary films, producing a wide range of programmes for PBS, Discovery, National Geographic, BBC, Channel 4, Five and other major international broadcasters.
